One plan for every AI platform.

Every week an owner asks whether they need a ChatGPT strategy, a Gemini strategy, a Perplexity strategy, and a Copilot strategy, in the tone of someone pricing four separate gym memberships. Good news: the machines all go to the same gym.

The 80 Percent Every Platform Shares

Answer engines differ in branding and plumbing, but they shop for the same three things. A business they can identify without guessing: consistent name, services, and area everywhere, backed by schema markup. Proof that isn't self-reported: reviews, press, directories, community mentions. And content that answers questions in liftable form: one question per page, answered immediately.

Do that work once and you've done most of the work for all four platforms at the same time. That's not a happy accident. Answer engines converged on these signals because they're the hardest to fake.

Where Gemini Is Different

Gemini sits inside Google's ecosystem, so it leans hardest on the assets Google already owns: your Business Profile, your reviews, your Maps presence, and your standing in the index. If your Google Business Profile is thin, Gemini has thin material. Complete every field, keep hours and photos current, and treat reviews as a weekly habit, not an annual scramble. Everything in our AI Overviews guide pays off here twice.

Where Perplexity Is Different

Perplexity is the citations kid. Every answer footnotes its sources, which means it heavily favors businesses that exist in citable, published form: clear service pages, local press, industry articles, detailed directory profiles. If nothing worth citing mentions you, Perplexity has nowhere to point. The move: make your answer pages genuinely reference-worthy, and pick up the third-party mentions you've been putting off.

Where Copilot Is Different

Copilot draws on Bing. That's the whole secret. Claim your Bing Places listing, verify your business, and check how your site looks in Bing's index. It's an hour of housekeeping most competitors never do, which is the cheapest kind of advantage available. Copilot also lives inside Microsoft's workplace tools, so B2B queries flow through it more than most owners expect.

The Order of Operations

Run it as one program: identity first, then reviews and mentions, then answer pages, then the three platform-specific chores (Business Profile depth for Gemini, citable mentions for Perplexity, Bing Places for Copilot). Check your standing on all four with the 20-minute audit before and after. One plan, four scoreboards.

Questions People Ask

Do I really not need separate strategies per platform?

The foundation is shared: identity, proof, and answer content. Platform-specific work is a short checklist per platform, not a separate strategy.

Which AI platform matters most for my business?

Usually the ones your customers already use: Google's AI surfaces and ChatGPT lead for most local and consumer businesses, with Copilot stronger in B2B contexts.

What about Claude and other assistants?

The same foundation applies. Well-documented businesses with strong proof and clear answer content surface across assistants, including newer ones, without extra work.

How do I check my visibility on each platform?

Ask each one the questions your customers ask and record who gets named. Our free 20-minute audit turns that into a score you can track.

Do these platforms share data with each other?

No, but they read the same public web: your site, profiles, reviews, and mentions. That's why one clean foundation moves all of them.
